In an effort to enhance transparency, X is introducing its new “About this account” feature, designed to provide users with more insights into profiles. This innovative addition will not only reveal the country of origin but also disclose how many times a user has changed their username. As social media platforms face increasing scrutiny over user authenticity, this feature is a timely response to those concerns.

X began pilot testing this feature last month, and users have already started sharing screenshots of the rollout. By following in the footsteps of platforms like Facebook and Instagram, X aims to combat inauthentic engagement and establish a more trustworthy environment. According to Nikita Bier, X’s head of product, this feature is intended to enhance the authenticity of content shared on the platform.

Currently, users can check their own information by clicking the “Joined” button just below their bio. However, information on others’ accounts may not yet be accessible since the rollout is still ongoing. Users will have the option to display their country or region, with specific privacy toggles available for those who opt in. Additionally, accounts accessing X via VPNs may carry a disclaimer indicating that the displayed location may not be accurate.

As the “About this account” feature becomes widely available, it is expected to transform how users interact with profiles on X. Users will gain more confidence in the authenticity of the accounts they follow.
