Powerful Upgrades but with an Even Higher Price
At the start of the year, Lenovo teased us with the design of its upcoming flagship handheld console, the Legion Go 2. Today, at IFA 2025, the company unveiled more details, enhancing our understanding of its specs, pricing, and availability.
Visually, the Legion Go 2 retains its predecessor’s silhouette and detachable controllers. It features an impressive 8.8-inch OLED screen with a variable 144Hz refresh rate and VESA HDR TrueBlack 1000 certification. The ability to use the right controller as a vertical mouse remains, catering to first-person shooter gamers. Notably, Lenovo continues to include Hall Effect joysticks, built-in touchpads, and dual USB 4 ports.
Internally, the enhancements are substantial; users can now opt for an AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip, alongside options of 32GB RAM and up to 2TB of PCIe Gen 4 storage. A larger 74Whr battery promises improved longevity. While my demo time with the Legion Go 2 was limited, the Legion Space app appeared more responsive, although it may not match the seamless integration offered by other devices.
Despite these upgrades, the Legion Go 2 comes with an eye-watering price tag. Launching in October, the base model is expected to start at $1,049, significantly higher than the original’s $700. This jump, particularly for models with enhanced features, may lead gamers to reconsider other portable options like the Steam Deck.
As we navigate this new landscape of powerful gaming handhelds, the Legion Go 2 certainly makes a statement, though its price may cause potential buyers to think twice. Are the upgrades worth the increased cost? Share your thoughts in the comments!
