Notepad’s AI Writing Features Will Soon Run Locally on Copilot+ PCs

In a move that promises to enhance user experience, Microsoft is rolling out local AI writing features for Notepad, specifically for Copilot+ PC owners. This transformative update is set to allow the Notepad app to conduct tasks like summarizing, writing, and rewriting directly on your device—without requiring a subscription. Previously, these features necessitated a CoPilot Pro or Microsoft 365 subscription, making this development a welcomed relief for many.

As users have invested in AI PCs, this feature will save them funds each month, making advanced writing tools more accessible. Additionally, those with both a subscription and a Copilot+ PC will experience the flexibility of choosing between local processing and cloud generation, further tailoring the functionality to their needs.

Currently, this exciting local AI feature is being released to Windows Insider beta testers, available only in English for the time being. But that’s not all; the latest Insider builds are also enhancing other applications. For instance, Paint has introduced a new “Save as project” function, allowing users to save their work similar to Adobe software, along with an opacity slider for more refined control with the pencil and brush tools.

Meanwhile, the Snipping Tool is also getting an upgrade, with a new quick markup option that enables users to annotate their screenshots before saving—making editing more intuitive.

These updates reflect Microsoft’s commitment to evolving its software offerings. Anyone interested in trying these exciting features can sign up for free through the Canary and Dev Insider channels.
