Microsoft Makes Edge’s Copilot Mode a Bit Smarter
Web browsers are making a comeback, and Microsoft is at the forefront with its recent updates to Edge’s Copilot Mode, unveiled just days after OpenAI launched its own AI browser. This enhanced Copilot Mode, first introduced in July, now boasts several exciting features designed to simplify user tasks and improve overall browsing experience.
One of the standout additions is Copilot Actions, which leverages artificial intelligence to automate multi-step tasks. While this feature is already part of the standard Copilot, it’s now being highlighted in Edge’s Copilot Mode. Users can request actions like unsubscribing from email newsletters or making restaurant reservations, making everyday online tasks more efficient.
Another compelling feature is Journeys, which allows users to save ongoing projects for easy access later. Microsoft emphasizes that users no longer need to bookmark multiple tabs; instead, Copilot can provide a recap of articles read and suggest potential next steps for projects, creating a seamless research experience.
Additionally, users can opt to let Copilot access their browsing history. This capability enables personalized interactions, such as receiving clothing recommendations based on previous searches or getting movie suggestions tailored to past preferences.
Importantly, Microsoft ensures that user privacy remains a priority. Copilot requires explicit permission for data access, and the company asserts that only necessary information will be collected to enhance user experience.
Currently available in a “limited preview” for US users, these innovative features of Copilot Mode are set to change how we interact with the web, making it smarter and more intuitive than ever.
