Google Limits Free Nano Banana Pro Image Generation Usage Due to ‘High Demand’

As the popularity of Google’s new Nano Banana Pro image generation model skyrockets, the tech giant has announced it will limit free access to the AI system. In a recent support document uncovered by 9to5Google, Google revealed that free users can now generate only two images per day, down from three, due to unprecedented demand. The company stated, “Image generation and editing is in high demand. Limits may change frequently and will reset daily.”

In addition to the adjustments made for the Nano Banana Pro, free access to the Gemini 3 Pro model has also been restricted. Users not subscribed to a paid plan will receive “basic access,” with daily limits that may also change often. Initially, when the Gemini 3 Pro was launched on November 18, users enjoyed five free prompts daily—similar to the previous Gemini 2.5 Pro offering. Paid users of either Google AI Pro or AI Ultra plans continue to enjoy the same generous limits of 100 and 500 prompts per day, respectively.

Such moves are not unusual in the tech industry; companies often implement stricter usage policies after a product’s success. A similar scenario unfolded when OpenAI delayed releasing ChatGPT’s image generator for free users after it gained more traction than expected. However, OpenAI later expanded access to include free users.

As Google navigates this increased demand for its Nano Banana Pro image generation capabilities, users are left wondering how these limitations will shape their creative endeavors. Are you affected by these changes? Share your thoughts in the comments!
