Google Brings Free Gemini Access to India’s Largest Carrier
In a significant move to expand its AI offerings in India, Google has partnered with Reliance Intelligence, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries, to provide free access to its advanced AI model, Gemini. This initiative is exclusive to users on Jio’s Unlimited 5G plan, granting them complimentary use of Google AI Pro for 18 months—an exciting benefit for India’s digital-savvy youth.
Qualifying users aged 18 to 25 will have access to Gemini 2.5 Pro, the latest version of Google’s AI technology. This deal not only enhances their experience through higher limits on Nano Banana and Veo 3.1 for image and video generation but also expands their capabilities with NotebookLM. Furthermore, users will receive 2TB of cloud storage across Google’s applications, valued at approximately 35,100 rupees ($396).
Initially restricted to younger Jio customers, the offer aims to extend to all eligible plan holders via the MyJio app soon. This partnership builds on Google’s earlier investment in Jio, where it acquired a 7.7 percent stake in 2020 for $4.5 million.
As India emerges as a crucial hub for AI innovation, other tech giants are also making strides. For instance, Perplexity AI recently partnered with Bharti Airtel, with similar promotional offers aimed at their substantial customer base. OpenAI has also ventured into the Indian market with its affordable ChatGPT subscription, enhancing competition among tech firms.
With these developments, Google is cementing its position as a leading player in India’s AI landscape. As the tech race continues, it’s clear that the implications for consumers will be profound. What do you think about Google’s initiative? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
