Azure is in Recovery Following an Outage that Affected Microsoft 365, Xbox, and Minecraft
Microsoft’s Azure cloud service is in the recovery phase after a significant outage that impacted critical applications like Microsoft 365, Xbox, and Minecraft. Users reported spikes in outage reports around 12 PM ET, with the Azure status page indicating that Microsoft first became aware of the technical issues around that same time.
As of 3:57 PM ET, Microsoft announced it was deploying its “last known good configuration,” signaling early signs of recovery for affected customers. The company is actively rerouting traffic through “healthy nodes” and projects that full recovery will be achieved by 6:20 PM ET (23:20 UTC).
During the peak outage, many users took to platforms like Reddit to express their frustrations, detailing difficulties in loading Game Pass on Xbox and limited access to essential productivity apps. The disruption also appeared to cause problems for some airline websites and Microsoft’s own support pages.
A Microsoft spokesperson addressed the situation, stating, “We are working to address an issue affecting Azure Front Door that is impacting the availability of some services. Customers should continue to check their Service Health Alerts and the latest updates on this issue can be found on the Azure status page.”
In comparison, this Azure outage seems relatively mild compared to last week’s Amazon Web Services outage, which left many popular apps and services offline for hours.
