Apple is Bringing Back Slide Over in iPadOS 26.1
Apple has thrilled iPad users by announcing the return of the beloved Slide Over feature in iPadOS 26.1. This highly anticipated multitasking tool allows users to conveniently slide an app in and out from the side of the screen, making it easier to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
The iPadOS 26 update received mostly positive feedback from users, but many expressed their frustration over the absence of Slide Over, a feature that has been part of the iPad experience for a decade. Fortunately, Apple has listened to its users and has reintroduced this feature, currently available in the beta build.
The redesigned Slide Over now integrates seamlessly with the new windowing system in iPadOS 26. Users can resize their app windows and alter aspect ratios with ease. Additionally, the option to swipe right allows for complete app concealment, enhancing the multitasking workflow.
However, there is a notable change that some might consider a downgrade. Unlike in iPadOS 18, where users could easily switch between multiple apps within a Slide Over window, the new version permits only one active app at a time. This change may frustrate some users who relied on the previous functionality.
Despite the limitations, the reintroduction of Slide Over in iPadOS 26.1 marks a significant step forward in improving multitasking on the platform. As Apple continues to innovate, users are encouraged to share their experiences and thoughts on the new functionality.
