TikTok Will Let Users Tone Down the Amount of AI Content in Their Feed
In a significant move aimed at enhancing user experience, TikTok is introducing a new feature that will allow users to reduce the amount of AI-generated content appearing in their “For You” feed. The popular social media platform is set to roll out this setting in the coming weeks, giving users more control over the personalized content they encounter.
The upcoming toggle will be located in the “manage topics” section of the app, which users can utilize to curate their video preferences. In a recent blog post, TikTok emphasized that this new control option aims to help users “dial things down” when it comes to AI content recommendations. This initiative mirrors a similar response from Pinterest, where users expressed concerns about AI content overshadowing authentic images.
As TikTok and other platforms see a rise in AI-generated content, it’s crucial to address user sentiments. TikTok has confirmed over 1.3 billion videos labeled as AI content, yet acknowledges that its existing detection methods leave room for improvement. Currently, TikTok employs the Content Credentials system, a widely-used watermarking method designed to chemically label AI content. However, this approach can falter when videos are edited or shared across different platforms, obscuring the original metadata.
To tackle these challenges, TikTok is also planning to explore the use of “invisible watermarking.” This advanced technology aims to introduce an additional layer of security, ensuring that the identification and labeling of AI-generated content can be more reliable. The company explained, “‘Invisible watermarks’ add robust technological safeguards, making it harder for others to remove identification.”
As TikTok embraces this shift, users can look forward to refining their content consumption experience. What are your thoughts on reducing AI content on platforms like TikTok? Share your opinion in the comments below!
