Pinterest Will Let You ‘Dial Down’ AI Slop in Your Feeds
Pinterest is making strides to enhance user experience by reducing the amount of AI-generated content in feeds. The platform is introducing new settings that enable users to “dial down” this AI slop, particularly in categories that tend to be oversaturated with generative AI images, such as art, architecture, beauty, fashion, entertainment, health, home decor, and sports.
In a landscape where most social media platforms are struggling with the influx of AI-created content, Pinterest has seen a notable rise in complaints from users seeking human-created content. The new “refine your recommendations” setting allows users to have more control over the generative AI material showcased in their feeds. While the company acknowledges that not all AI content is of low quality, users can now tailor their experience according to their preferences.
It’s important to note that while Pinterest is focusing on dialing down AI-generated content, it does not aim to eliminate it entirely from user feeds. This way, those who appreciate AI-generated material still have access, while others can opt for less of it. Currently, this new feature is limited to image pins, with video content remaining unaffected.
To further assist in content identification, Pinterest has ramped up its tools for labeling AI-created posts. This initiative began earlier this year and is designed to provide clarity to users navigating their feeds.
The new settings are currently available on desktop and Android, with an iOS rollout expected in the near future. As Pinterest continues to adapt, users are encouraged to engage with the platform more actively and share their thoughts on the changes.
If you’ve noticed an increase in AI content on Pinterest, or if you welcome these new settings, let us know in the comments!
