Google Maps Will Use AI to Predict if EV Chargers Will Be Available on Arrival

Google is rolling out an exciting update to its Maps app that will significantly enhance the experience for electric vehicle (EV) users. With the new feature, Google Maps will use artificial intelligence (AI) to predict the availability of EV chargers at your destination. Previously, while the app provided the locations of chargers, users could arrive only to find them occupied, leading to frustrating waits.

The updated tool will forecast “how many chargers will likely be available upon your arrival.” By utilizing real-time data and AI technology, users can now avoid long lines and wasted time when searching for a charging station. This feature will be available next week, initially on Android Auto and vehicles equipped with Google built-in.

Additionally, Google Maps’ Explore tab has undergone a makeover, allowing users to discover curated lists from local influencers and companies like OpenTable. Just swipe up to see trending restaurants, activities, and sights in your vicinity. This revamped Explore tab will be released globally this month on both Android and iOS.

Moreover, the integration of Gemini, Google’s AI assistant, will enhance the Maps experience. Users can expect personalized “know before you go” tips for various locations, making it feel as though they have a knowledgeable guide at their fingertips. This feature is already available for many users in the US on their mobile devices.

As if that weren’t enough, Google is also allowing reviewers to customize their display names when providing feedback to local businesses. This fun addition lets users review their favorite shops with playful names while maintaining the integrity of their Google account.

In summary, these updates to Google Maps are designed to improve the EV user experience and make travel more convenient. What are your thoughts on these features? Share your comments below!
