Google Maps is Adding Live Lane Guidance for the Polestar 4
Google is bringing live lane guidance to Google Maps in vehicles equipped with its built-in infotainment system, with the Polestar 4 being the first to benefit from this innovative feature. Leveraging the vehicle’s front-facing camera, Google Maps will “see” the road akin to how drivers do, enhancing navigation with more precise lane guidance. The system will utilize visual and audio cues to direct drivers towards the correct lane, thus minimizing missed exits.
The remarkable new feature employs AI technology to analyze lane markings and road signs in real-time, integrating this data with Google Maps’ navigation system. This integration promises a smoother driving experience, particularly for those who often find themselves in the wrong lane. The navigation system will notify drivers in the left lane about upcoming exits on the right side, ensuring they stay on course.
Although details on the specific road types supported by this feature are still limited, Google has expressed intentions to expand live lane guidance to more road scenarios over time. Currently, this feature will be launched on the Polestar 4 in the US and Sweden in the coming months, with plans to extend it to additional vehicles via partnerships with other automakers.
For now, Google has clarified that live lane guidance will operate solely on highways, providing a smart solution for highway navigation.
